Cardiology
Cardiology patient areas
As a Cardiology patient you may be looked after in one or more of the following areas.
Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories
The Golden Jubilee National Hospital’s state-of-the-art cardiac catheterisation laboratories (cath labs) are staffed by a highly skilled multidisciplinary team of Consultant Cardiologists, Specialist Nurses, Radiographers and Cardiac Physiologists.
Procedures carried out in the cath labs include:
- coronary angiography - passing a fine tube via the artery, (large blood vessel) in your leg or wrist, directly to your heart.
- coronary angioplasty - a balloon and/or a small metal coil (stent) is used to open narrowed areas in the arteries of your heart.
- electrophysiology to diagnose and treat heart rhythm disturbances
- diagnosis and treatment of adult congenital heart disease
- diagnosis of pulmonary vascular disorders
Cardiac Day Unit
Our Cardiac Day Unit is a 16-chair day care unit adjacent to the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory (cath lab).
There are eight rooms, each with two chairs. Patients will be accommodated in a room with someone of the same gender.
Patients are admitted here before and after having their procedures carried out in the Cath Lab.
Cardiology Ward 2C
Our Cardiology ward 2C is an 8-bed ward where we care for patients requiring an overnight stay after their procedure. Patients are also looked after in ward 2 East.
Coronary Care Unit (CCU)
Our Coronary Care Unit is an eight-bed ward for complex patients and those who have been treated for a heart attack.
