Cardiology patient journey - heart attacks

Patients having specific types of heart attack will come direct to the Golden Jubilee National Hospital for treatment as part of the West of Scotland Optimal Reperfusion service.

Working closely with the Scottish Ambulance Service, the Golden Jubilee treats patients having:

  • ST Elevated Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) heart attack caused by a blocked artery; and
  • high risk Non ST Elevated Myocardial Infarction (NSTEMI) heart attacks.

The largest of two sites providing Optimal Reperfusion heart attack treatment to patients in the west of Scotland, NHS Golden Jubilee has had the fastest ‘door to balloon’ time in the UK for treating STEMI heart attacks caused by a blocked artery since 2008.
