Self-Selected Components (University of Glasgow)

We host a number of students who wish to complete a SSC module in various subspecialties. These placements need a clinical supervisor and the first point of contact should be the Educational Lead for the subspecialty you are interested in. We have limited numbers of SSC places so please apply early. Current options include Cardiology (and its subspecialties), Cardiac Surgery, Thoracic surgery, Anaesthetics/Intensive Care, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology and General Surgery.

Electives (University of Glasgow)

We also host a number of electives. Again, please reach out early to the Educational Lead of the area you are interested in. During your elective there will be the opportunity to do some form of project work to explore the topic in depth.

Electives (other UK and international students)

Electives from other universities are possible, but may take time to arrange. There may also be Visa and PVG requirements to study in Scottish hospitals, so we would advise to reach out early via the Educational Leads if required.
