Prevention and Control of Infection
Prevention and control of infection is everyone’s responsibility!
Single patient rooms, strict hand washing guidelines and the use of alcohol hand gel all contribute to NHS Golden Jubilee’s good track record in preventing and controlling infections.
Our Prevention and Control of Infection team provides cover to patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Supported by a team of Prevention and Control of Infection Link Practitioners and accredited Cleanliness Champions, they advise patients, staff and visitors on hand hygiene, isolation techniques and environmental cleanliness and audit activities such as hand hygiene, waste, safe environment and sharps safety.
All our housekeeping staff also report to our senior manager for Infection Control - ensuring that those cleaning our hospital are fully up to date on all infection control issues and procedures.
Our Prevention and Control of Infection team also manages Surgical Site Surveillance in line with national guidelines, focussing on wound infection rates for up to 30 days after patients have had hip or knee replacements or cardiac surgery.
Our Tissue Viability Nurse advises patients on wound care and pressure areas, including the use of special mattresses and overlays.
The team also provide education and training on Prevention and Control of Infection subjects for all departments across NHS Golden Jubilee.
