Critical Care

Our comprehensive and person centred Critical Care Service provides multi-disciplinary intensive and high dependency care for adults undergoing elective and emergency heart, lung, cardiology, general surgery and orthopaedic procedures across the West of Scotland.

We also support the complex needs of three national services. Specifically:

  • Scottish National Advanced Heart Failure Service (SNAHFS)
  • Scottish Adult Congenital Cardiac Service (SACCS)
  • Scottish Pulmonary Vascular Unit (SPVU).

As a result,  our experienced team of doctors, nurses, managers and Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) routinely work with patients requiring mechanical circulatory support, including intra-aortic balloon pumps, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and ventricular assist devices.

Facilities

The service supports approximately 2,500 patients per year and is delivered through two Intensive Care Units (ICU) and three High Dependency Units (HDU) across the third floor of the Hospital.
