Soft Tissue Knee Surgery

Soft Tissue Knee Surgery is usually required for people who have a problem with their knee, this may relate to a previous injury or damage to a structure within the knee other than the bone itself. This includes the ligaments such as the anterior cruciate ligament, shock absorbing cartilage (meniscus) or the gliding (articular) cartilage.

You may need surgery if:

• A damaged or injured soft tissue structure in the knee is causing pain or for your knee to give way on you.
• Attempts to improve the knee symptoms have not worked or it is anticipated that they won’t work (e.g. Physiotherapy, pain relief and injections).
• The symptoms you are experiencing from your knee are impacting on quality of life.
• You have considered all the options available to you and would like to be considered for a Soft Tissue Knee Surgery.

The majority of surgery performed for soft tissue knee problems is done by keyhole (arthroscopy). Occasionally more complicated or open procedures are needed depending on the exact nature of the surgery needed. The consultant and their team will discuss the exact specifics of the surgery at your appointment.
