Resident doctors
We are thrilled to welcome all resident doctors to the Golden Jubilee University National Hospital. Whether you are joining us as a clinical or research fellow, foundation year trainee, internal medicine trainee, or specialty registrar, we are proud to support your development in 1 of Scotland’s major centres for elective care, innovation and clinical excellence. Our hospital hosts a diverse group of doctors specialising in cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, anaesthetics, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, radiology/diagnostics and general surgery. Each of you brings unique skills and insights that help us achieve our shared goal of providing outstanding patient care.
As an active teaching and research hospital, NHS Golden Jubilee provides a rich environment for learning and collaboration. You will benefit from regular multidisciplinary teaching sessions, protected training time, access to simulation facilities, and opportunities to engage in service improvement and clinical research. We encourage you to actively participate in the educational resources offered, contribute to audits and departmental teaching and make the most of the supportive atmosphere fostered by our clinical teams. We hope your experience with us is both professionally enriching and personally rewarding and we are excited to support you throughout your journey here.
Each speciality had its own education programme for the Resident Doctors. Please discuss this with your Educational Supervisor and with the Education Lead for your department as all resident doctors have access to a study leave budget.
Induction
Induction Days are held in August and February. The morning of these sessions will introduce you to the hospital and its systems, while the afternoon is dedicated to your specialist area. On Induction Day you will also have the opportunity to meet the Chief Residents and the Director of Medical Education.
Educational Supervisor/Appraisal
Every Resident Doctor will have an annual process of review. This may be via the Appraisal system or an Educational Review with your Educational Supervisor. It is the Resident Doctor’s responsibility to reach out to their Appraiser/Educational Supervisor for review.
Wellbeing
The Golden Jubilee has a collection of resources to promote the wellbeing of staff and students. These include Chaplaincy Services in Spiritual Care and our Wellbeing Zone on Level 1. The links to Spiritual Care and our Health and Wellbeing Hub can be accessed via Sharepoint (internal link only).
Clinical Observership
There are a limited availability of Clinical Observerships at the Golden Jubilee. However, due to new regulations regarding Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) and Visas, we may not be able to grant requests.
